The momentum gained by the Turkish TV show sector on the international arena and the digital transformation that occurred have increased the importance of the online platforms where domestic productions are offered to the global audience. Global access to Turkish TV production has become a strategic element of the sector, particularly due to the digital video sharing platforms such as YouTube. In addition, digitalization has allowed the audience to access the content published on these platforms any time they wish and to watch the content as long as they want, which makes the platforms even more important for that part of the audience that does not like to be dependent on the broadcast times of linear channels.
In this framework, the Competition Board has concluded, via the commitment procedure, the investigation launched on the economic unity composed of Merzigo Holding Anonim Şirketi and Yek Teknoloji Pazarlama Anonim Şirketi, which provides content management services (CMS) on various digital video sharing platforms, including YouTube, to determine if they abused their dominant position as per Article 6 of the Act no 4054 on the Protection of Competition. The investigation process examined the agreements undertakings in question signed with producers and other content right holders, as well as their conduct in the market.
In its meeting of 29.01.2026, the Competition Board reviewed the commitments text submitted, and found that the commitments concerned were sufficient to eliminate the competition issues, proportionate, rapidly implementable and effectively enforceable. Consequently, the Board took the decision numbered 26-03/72-28 to accept the commitments in question, making them binding for the parties and terminating the investigation.
