Cengiz ÇOLAK was born in 1964 in Üsküdar, İstanbul. After completing primary, secondary and high school education, he graduated from the Department of Economics at İstanbul University Faculty of Economics in 1987.

After he completed his military service as a reserve officer in Doğubeyazıt, he started his professional career in banking in a private participation bank in 1990.

After working more than 27 years in the banking sector in Trade and Risk Monitoring services, he worked as Credit Operations Manager, Head of Risk Monitoring Group and lastly Manager of Administrative Services Group.

In 2008, he took part in the founding of a privately held participation insurance company with foreign investment, where he served as a member of the board of directors until 2015. He delivered training on methods for individual and corporate fund allocation, foreign exchange and foreign trade practices, leasing and incentive operations, insurance and customs proceedings.

He was appointed as a Competition Board Member with the Presidential Decision numbered 2021/255, which was published in the Official Gazette dated 27 May 2021 and numbered 31493, and served as a Board Member for four years.

ÇOLAK served as the Vice President of the Competition Authority between August 2025 and September 2026 and was reappointed as a Competition Board Member with the Presidential Decision 2026/296, published in the Official Gazette dated 5 September 2026 and numbered 33361.

He has a good command of English. He is married and has four children.
